dark to light counseling

Are you feeling unworthy of the life you are living or maybe incompetent in the role that you have?

Maybe it feels like every thought that crosses your mind is a spiraling rabbit hole of worst-case scenarios, and it’s creating a barrier to reaching your fullest potential.

Has it felt like you’ve been on an emotional roller coaster of sadness, anxiety, or confusion and you feel like the ride is never going to end?

Perhaps an unsettling sense of wanting to isolate or build walls within your close relationships.

You always make sure everyone else is taken care of first; however, you know it’s time for something different. Time for you.

My aim is to make therapy a place where you can feel comfortable and understood.

I work from a place of compassion, empathy, and gentle humor.

I blend active problem-solving and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help you work on building self-awareness, enhancing emotional intelligence, and discovering values based in your authentic self.

Your readiness to change and history of consistent resilience will be valuable to your growth.

I have a belief that everyone is suffering in some manner and acceptance is key to building the life you want.

I am passionate in working with men and/or fathers on bettering themselves and their role in their family.

russell murray, lcmhc

As many people do, I struggled to find my purpose in life. All that I knew is that I wanted to help others. Personally I suffered from depression and anxiety, which hindered me in finding a purposeful life. I decided that I had to better understand and overcome these issues that had become barriers. Through hard work and confronting these problems, I found ways to realize my potential in helping others struggling with similar issues. The framework I use, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), allows me to assist clients with staying in the present moment, defusing negative thoughts, accepting the pain life can bring, making value based decisions, understanding self as context, and taking committed action. My aim is to help others create a meaningful life, while accepting the pain life offers (psychological flexibility).

anxiety

Do you feel as though you can’t catch a break from worrying? Because you’ve been dealing with anxiety everyday, you may have come to believe that it’s a part of you, and something you just have to live with. It doesn’t have to be that way. In addition to constant worry, you may also notice that you are sometimes in a state of panic, you may be fearful, and you may have physical symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath, and nausea. I would love to assist you in learning techniques to help alleviate your symptoms so that you can have less worry in your everyday life.

men's issues

Being a man comes with a lot of societal ways of how you “should be” and I am proud of you for finding this page and your willingness to show up for you. Whether you are dealing with separation or divorce, experiencing life transitions such as a new job, fatherhood, or life without self-medicating with drugs or alcohol, I am here to listen and help you navigate this new journey. I am a single dad. I have experienced many of these things and pairing these life experiences and my formal therapy training, I want to help you rediscover your values, meaning of life, and respect for yourself. Maybe you are struggling with anxiety of how to parent and take care of your own parents. Perhaps you need to fully grieve the loss of something/someone important to you, or you are ready to open up about traumatic events that have occurred in your past that are continuing to impact your present. Let’s do this together.

healthcare worker burnout

You have been working tirelessly providing your undivided attention and care to others during the COVID-19 pandemic. It makes total sense that you are feeling fatigue, stress, anxiety, irritability, as well as an array of other strong emotions that you maybe are keeping pent up inside. Learning to cope with and process these emotions in a safe, nonjudgmental space is something you deserve. High stress and emotional toil can wreak havoc on your well-being, your relationships outside of work, and the care you are able to fully give your patients. If you are feeling overworked, underappreciated, and just down right exhausted, reach out today.

family conflict

Being close to other human beings brings both a sense of comfort as well as occasional frustration and conflict. We love our children, but sometimes maintaining a sense of balance can be difficult as your child moves through different developmental stages. I specialize in working with parent-child relations and behavioral issues that your child may be experiencing. As a parent myself, I know how to help you through the evolving stages of parenthood and child development. Take the first step today in working toward a better relationship with your child.
